On Monday 20th August 2018 we began out first Kids and Youth Summer Camp in Southwold. Southwold is a seaside town in Suffolk and we had a lovely sunny week training Kung Fu, playing games, doing arts and crafts and relaxing on the beach.

Each day our kids were met with a new theme of the day. These included Beach Treasures, Lifeguarding, Crabs and Sharks. We spent each day playing Kung Fu games which challenged their Fundamental Skills (Awareness, Focus, Resilience and Integration), we learned a Kung Fu form based on the theme of the day and we did arts and crafts (for example making shark fins, creating a Giant Crab, painting pebbles and making swords). Our Youth Kung Fu students worked through their syllabus with Sifu Ross, deepening their skills and joining in with the games and arts and crafts when they wanted a break from their training.

In the afternoons it was beach time! The families and instructors met on the beach to build sandcastles, meet the lifeguards, sell painted rocks to raise money for the RNLI, to swim in the sea and go crabbing. On Thursday evening we had our Summer Camp dinner where the families and instructors had exclusive use of Cafe 51 on the High Street in Southwold. It was the perfect way to celebrate the exciting week we had all had! On the Friday the kids showed the adults all of the forms they had learnt in a Ceremony and watched a demonstration of what the Youth Kung Fu students had been working on. It was a great way to end the week of Kung Fu fun in the sun! We hope to see you in Southwold in 2019 (Monday 12th - Thursday 15th August 2019), whether it is just for the day or for the whole camp!
