General Updates
Bank Holidays: No Training
Our classes continue as normal throughout all school holidays, except Bank Holidays and the two weeks we have off at Christmas. Due to this, please note that there are no classes on Friday the 18th April, Monday the 21st of April and Monday the 5th of May.
If you would normally attend on the Bank Holiday you’re always welcome to make up the class by attending an alternative class before or after that date. If you would like to do this please check out the Timetable page on our website for details of our other classes.
Partnering with ArtMartial Clothing
We are enjoying partnering with ArtMartial for all our hoodies and non-training gear, and have now created a new shop interface so it’s now easier to find what you’re looking for. If you need some new casual wear, now’s the time to check it out here.
Parking at Hills Road
Hill’s Road has started putting their gate across the college car-park (opposite the entrance to the Centre car park). Whilst our members are allowed to use the car park, we aren’t allowed to give the code out to everyone en masse so if you need the code drop us an email or ask at Hill’s Road Reception.
Contacting Us/Live Chat
When we created FuTube back during the lockdown period we included a ‘Live Chat’ feature to enable us to fix any teething problems in real time. As time has moved on and FuTube is no-longer in the ‘being built’ stage we are discontinuing the Live Chat feature.
The best way to get in contact with us is by dropping us an email at email@cambridgekungfu.com, as this is monitored by several members of the team. If you prefer to speak to us in person you can call us on 01223 410555 and leave a message and we will ring you back as soon as someone is available, or you can chat to us after your class if there’s time/it’s appropriate.
We do keep an eye on our social media, however we will not see messages on here as quickly as we will see emails.
If in doubt, email us and we’ll get back to you asap.
Kids Kung Fu
New Term Syllabus and FuTube
We hope that you enjoyed the Easter Holidays! On Tuesday 22nd April we kick off the new term which runs until Saturday 19th July.
From Monday 28th April you will be able to access the syllabus videos on FuTube which you can use to help consolidate your child’s practice at home:
Tiny Tigers
Little Dragons
Junior Warriors
If you need help accessing FuTube just get in touch!
Grading Weeks
This terms Grading dates for Little Dragons and Junior Warriors:
Monday 23rd June – Saturday 5th July inclusive
Please note the Tiny Tigers do not grade.
Your child should attend as normal during the Grading Week as grading takes place within their regular class. Grading is always optional, if your child hasn’t been attending class regularly, please ensure they feel under no pressure to grade. However, if they are keen to grade then FuTube has all the resources they need in order to do some extra practise and preparation at home.
If this is your child’s first Grading their instructor will talk them through what will happen during the classes leading up to grading. Please bear in mind that if your child is a Dragon or Warrior and decides not to Grade they will get a certificate but they will not get a badge. If you will be away for your grading classes then please get in touch about organising an alternative class to grade in if you wish to grade.
Ceremony Week
The week commencing Monday 7th July will be Ceremony Week. Ceremony Week is a “watching week” where you are invited to come into your child’s regular class to watch them perform their Form, receive their certificate and play some Kung Fu games. We look forward to seeing you there and you are very welcome to bring and family or friends who may like to watch.
The week after Ceremony Week (the week commencing Monday 14th July) will be Games Week and the last week of term. In Games Week the children celebrate the hard work they have shown over the term by playing Kung Fu games.
We then go straight into our Summer Holiday Programme (see further details below).
Summer Holidays
We continue our classes through the Summer Holidays with our fun packed Summer Holiday programme of classes. During this time we run a reduced timetable, however your children are welcome to attend classes on any of the days that are running (for their age group), and they can come to as many classes during the week as they would like to (at no extra cost and without having to book in “catch-up”).
We will have classes running on a Tuesday (4pm Tigers and 5pm Warriors), on a Thursday (4pm Dragons and 5pm Warriors) and we will have Tigers, Dragons and Warriors classes running on a Saturday (10am Junior Warriors, 11am Little Dragons, 12:30pm Tiny Tigers, 1:30pm Little Dragons and 2:30pm Junior Warriors). You are welcome to attend any, and as many, classes as you would like to for your age group. We will send a reminder email nearer the time as well.
Moving Up
At the start of the Summer Holidays (from Monday 21st July) children, who are old enough, will progress up to the next class.
From Monday 21st July;
Tiny Tigers who are currently in School Year 1 will move up to Little Dragons
Little Dragons who are currently in School Year 3 will move up to Junior Warriors
Junior Warriors who are currently in School Year 6 will move up to our Youth Kung Fu Programme
Over the Summer Holidays (from Monday 21st July onwards) we will be running our Summer Holiday reduced timetable. During this time you can attend any class for your moving-up age group (see section above for the Summer Timetable). However we will need to take your preferences for your regular moving-up class for September onwards. On Wednesday 4th June we will be emailing everyone who is due to move up to the next programme to ask for your September class preference. If you would like to look at our timetable for September beforehand to think through which classes you might be interested in please visit our timetable page here.
Unfortunately, we can’t take preferences until that email has been sent to make it fair on everyone, although if you have any questions about the process, or the options available to your child, then please don’t hesitate to contact us via <link-“mailto:email@cambridgekungfu.com”>email</link> beforehand. If you have any questions about moving up, please let me know.
Hill's Road Policies
It is the Hill’s Road Sports and Tennis Centre policy that children under the age of 12 must not be left unattended at the Centre. Please make sure that you pick up and drop off your child at class if they are under this age.
Although we do our best to ensure that our classes aren’t ever cancelled at short notice, there may be extenuating circumstances where this could happen, ensuring you directly drop off your child ensures that they won’t be left unsupervised at the Centre if there is a last minute class cancellation. If you have any questions about this just get in touch.
Youth Kung Fu & Youth Escrima
Price Increase
We would like to remind you that from May 2025 we will be increasing our prices for Kids and Youth classes to £43 a month for one class a week (a £1 a month increase) and moving forwards we will be automatically increasing our prices by £1 each year in May. We will do this automatically via your Direct Debit, and so there is no action that you need to take. We always consider price changes carefully; however, rising venue and staff costs over the past few years have necessitated these updates.

Sunday 11th May - Sifu Benno Seminar
For those who haven’t met him, Sifu Benno is a Master of Wing Chun, and the teacher of both Sifu Ross & Sifu Col. He has been training a variety of martial arts his whole life, and now specialises in the Practical Wing Chun of Sifu Wan Kam Leung as well as Escrima Concepts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If you want to experience a higher level of understanding and ability of Wing Chun, Sifu Benno is the person to come and train with!
This seminar is open to all Youth Kung Fu members who have passed Grade 8 (note there will also be adults training in the seminar). Sifu Benno will be focussing on Gau-Cha-Sau (the crossing arms from the beginning of Siu Nim Tao), and how it’s used in comparison to the same in the other forms (Cham Kiu and Biu Jee). Note: you don’t need to have done the forms to attend the seminar.
When: Sunday 11th May, 2pm-5pm
Venue: 28th Cambridge Scout Hut
Price: £40, or £30 with UCT membership

This term’s Youth Escrima grading will be taking place on Monday 14th July and Monday 21st July.
This term’s Youth Kung Fu Grading will be taking place from Tuesday 1st July – Saturday 12th July inclusive.
Your child should attend as normal during the Grading Week as Grading takes place within their regular class. In Youth Kung Fu the week following Grading will be a Games Week.
Grading is always optional, if your child hasn’t been attending class regularly please ensure they feel under no pressure to grade. However, if they are keen to grade then FuTube has all the resources they need in order to do some extra practise and preparation at home. Students going for Revision Grades (Grades 4, 8 and 12) can attend as many grading sessions as they would like during this period. If you will be away for your grading classes then please get in touch about organising an alternative.
Our Youth classes continue with the regular timetable through the Summer Holidays, although we don’t have classes on Bank Holidays.
Bank Holidays and Half Term
We continue classes through the May half-term holiday, however please note we do not run classes on Bank Holidays and so there won’t be any classes on the following dates:
Monday 21st April
Monday 5th May
Monday 26th May
Youth Escrima students are welcome to attend Youth Kung Fu classes to make up for these missed sessions. If you would like to do that just let us know.

Wing Chun
Price Change 2025
Our new pricing structure goes into effect from 1st May:
- Training in one class per week, in Wing Chun and/or Escrima, will cost £49 per month.
- Training in two or more classes per week, in Wing Chun and/or Escrima, will cost £59 a month.
If you would like to increase your regular training or try out an extra class please let us know.
We always consider price changes carefully; however, rising venue and staff costs over the past few years have necessitated these updates.
These prices will automatically increase by £1 each May, starting in 2026.
If you pay by Direct Debit, no action is required—we’ll adjust your monthly payments automatically starting from May 2025, and you’ll receive an automated email at least 10 days before each May change. If you pay by another method, we will contact you separately as the adjustment date approaches.
You can find our timetable here, and our pricing here.
Benefits of increasing your training frequency include faster skill development, improved muscle memory, and greater confidence in applying techniques under pressure. More training also enhances fitness, coordination, and adaptability while deepening your understanding of both Wing Chun and Escrima. Plus, training with a wider range of partners helps you refine your responses and build stronger connections with other members.
New Multi Class Deal
With our new price structure including a better deal for training more than once a week, we wanted to draw your attention to the Tuesday night (and Thursday afternoon) Escrima Concepts classes. Although a different art to Wing Chun, Escrima is a great complimentary art for anyone wanting to do extra training to include using and defending against weapons. We have quite a few members already training in both arts (ask me in class if you’d like to chat to someone who already does both) and the different types of training can be really beneficial when you get to the higher grades.
Training in two or more adult classes per week, in Wing Chun and/or Escrima, now costs only £59 a month, and you get 2 weeks free to give it a go if you decide to try out the class.
You can find our timetable here.

Catch Up Classes
We currently ask you to let us know when you’re doing a catch up class on a different day to your normal class. Starting in June, we are trialling a new system whereby you do not need to let us know; you can just turn up. We’re hoping this makes the process of catching up on missed classes easier for everyone.
This will apply to all our adults classes. Kids and Youth will keep the old system of registering your catch up with us due to a different numbers cap for kids and under 18s.
Saturday 10th May - Sifu Benno in Cambridge
Bart Cham Dao Workshop with Sifu Benno

If you do not have your own knives we might have a spare pair you can borrow for the day, however I suggest also getting a basic pair of these so you can continue to practice at home afterwards. Before buying a metal pair for yourself, I suggest attending the seminar and trying out everyone else’s for feel and weight.
If you have any questions about this, please speak to Col or Ross in class.

You will also get a limited edition ITC performance t-shirt.

Tuesday 3rd June - Venue Change
New Tuesday night location from June 3rd
In June, the Tuesday night Escrima classes will be moving to Hills Road Sports and Tennis Centre, and will have a new time schedule:
Beginner & Intermediate (Grades 1-6)
7pm-8.30pm: This class is the same as the current class, with a slightly later start time.
Senior & Advanced (Grades 7+)
7pm-9.30pm: You will all have heard many times that the foundations of the higher grades are seeded within the lower grades, so we’d like to invite all higher grade students to attend from 7pm to revise, consolidate, and improve their skills with this material. At 8.30pm we will then focus solely on the Senior and Advanced syllabus.
The new venue has more training space than our current venue (extra width, alas not extra height), and lots of onsite car parking (compared to Mill Road which now has none). It is generally easier to access for anyone with a car since the Mill Road bridge closed earlier this year.
The classes will stay at Mill Road for May, with the first class at Hills Road being Tuesday 3rd June. If you have any questions about this move please let Col know.
Friday 1st August - Escrima Concepts Intensive Training Course
We will once again be running our Intensive Training Course in Cambridge this year: 15 hours of training over 3 days, with spaces limited to 10 attendees. After discussing it with several of you in class, the topic we’ve chosen is ‘Strategy, Armed and Unarmed’. We will be looking at having a plan, setting traps, and trying to manipulate your opponent into doing what you want.
You will also get a limited edition ITC t-shirt, so please let us know what size you would like when you sign up.
Friday 1st August: 11am-1.30pm, 2.30pm-5pm
Saturday 2nd August: 1.30pm-4pm, 4.30pm-7pm
Sunday 3rd August: 10am-12.30pm, 1.30pm-4pm
Venue: 28th Cambridge Scout Hut
Price: £160
